Donkeys Hooves

Donkeys Hooves

MYTH: Donkeys have such good, hard black hooves, they never need to be trimmed.

FACT: Donkeys need their hooves trimmed, by a good farrier, on a regular schedule, just like horses. Feral horses and donkeys (burros), in the wild, cover a great deal of rough terrain, just foraging and travelling to water. Thus their hooves are kept worn down. Domesticated horses and donkeys no longer travel enough distance on natural terrain, to keep their feet worn down correctly. The less free exercise they get in a large pasture, the more often they need to be trimmed.
