Green Dogs and Black Bulls
by Gayle Bunney

Well it is 11:45 A.M. and I am STILL ALIVE.  Somebody up above must love me?

I was telling a friend about my pack of GREEN dogs earlier this morning.  The color GREEN that happens every October when the neighbor turns his cattle loose on his field of Clover or other such Feeds bordering my land.  What goes in GREEN, comes out GREEN.....................and the dogs simply must roll in it!!!

Then it was time to head out and feed my horses.  Now this is a morning task that I normally love doing.  But not today!!!  I threw my back out a few days ago and just walking, let alone pitching hay is not good.  But work goes on so best not to cry the blues about it.....................................

Anyway, I walk slowly out to the hay bale and the dogs immediately tangle with something unseen around the corner of my 16 foot high wind break for the horses.  They are howling and have something cornered?  I walk slowly around the corner of the wind break and come face to face with a VERY FIGHTING MAD BLACK BULL.........................surrounded by my pack of 10 to 15 pound harassing dogs.   Why is he mad you may ask???  Because of the silly dogs harassing him , that is why.  He is a nice young bull, just not about to be molested by a pack of dogs quietly without retaliating.  Can't blame this young bull in the least?

Mr. Bull takes one look at me and charges me. A black Freight Train coming full blast with a  crazed bellow instead of a whistle.

Now in my younger days I would have just jumped the fence closest to me...................... but my younger days are LONG GONE......................and I couldn't run or jump with my back today to save my soul............................. The best I had time to do in those scant couple of seconds was reach the fence and plaster myself tight against it...........................

Mr. Bull missed me by about an inch as he blew by...........................the dogs hot on his heels.  I did manage to climb the fence by the time he turned to face the tormenting dogs.  He mowed them down, left, right and center...........................they were scrambling like mad to get up and get out of his way.............................

To make a long storey short, I survived, all the dogs survived although some of them are bruised up pretty bad.  And Mr. Bull, he tore out two strands of my 4 wire fence going back to his own pasture with his cows.

Well hopefully that is my only excitement for today!!!   I really am too old to play "Matador" anymore.  It hurts to get old.................................

NOTE TO SELF:  Buy Adult Diapers today in town so I have them on hand for the next time!!!
