WHITE LOTION FOR AIDING IN THE CONTROL OF PROUD FLESH

Proud flesh is often associated with deep, wide-open wounds on horses. As the wound heals, sometimes excessive granulation tissue is formed, growing freely above the surface, this is proud flesh.
White lotion is an astringent-antiseptic preparation that is particularly useful for controlling proud flesh. It is prepared by taking 30 g of lead acetate, plus 20 g of zinc sulphate and adding water to it until you have 500 ml. Keep the solution in a tightly closed container. In this mixture the ingredients settle out quickly and therefore the solution should be very well shaken each time, just prior to use.
Your own veterinarian can tell you how often to apply it for your particular horse’s wound.
