Tidbits Of
Horse and Dog Information
(1) A horse
that appears to have an unknown lameness in both
front hooves/legs, or perhaps both hind hooves/legs, or
even all four hooves/legs may have nothing wrong with
their hooves or legs at all. Instead such a horse may
have a "Spinal Injury" or "Muscle Tissue Injury" in
their backs. When unable to spot what is causing such a
lameness, have your Veterinarian check out the horses
back from behind his ears to his tail.
(2) A cow
that is laying down and then stands up, gets up "Hind
End" first. A horse that is laying down and then stands
up, gets up "Front End" first. A dog that is laying
down and then stands up, can do both. Normally they get
up "Front End" first but if they want to, they can stand
up "Back End" first too!
(3)
Premature Separation of a "Foal" or "Puppy from it's
mother, sometimes because of the baby becoming an
"Orphan" but usually simply because people wean the Foal
or Puppy far to young can result in a life time of
"Behavioral Problems" in the animal. They may have long
term difficulties adjusting to other animals of their
own species and humans too. Simply because their
mothers did not have sufficient time to teach them what
is acceptable and what is NOT acceptable in normal Horse
or Dog behavior.
(4) A horse
or dog that has been bitten by a "Venomous Snake" and
survives MAY develop some "Humoral Immunity" to any
further Snakebites. Meaning only it may be less
venerable to the toxic effects of the venom but still in
need of a Veterinarian as Snakebite is serious and life
threatening. Especially in smaller sized victims, such
as small breed dogs.
(5) Some
breeds of horses are fully mature both Physically and
Mentally at approx. -3 years of age. Other breeds of
horses are NOT fully mature both Physically or Mentally
until 5+ years of age. Some very small breed dogs are
fully mature both Physically and Mentally at approx. -14
months of age. Some very large breeds of dogs are NOT
fully mature, both Physically and Mentally until 22+
months of age.
(6) A
female dog that is in "Estrous" (commonly called In
Heat) that gets bred by more than one male dog can have
puppies from any or all males that bred her. Such
puppies then are only 1/2 brothers or sisters to each
other, even though born together from the same mother.
